Gossip girl & 10 things I hate about you

      Have you ever heard about ‘Gossip girl’? It is famous American TV drama show. The main characters are teenagers who lives in Manhattan and most of them are very rich. This drama is famous because of not only the story but also the fashion style of main characters. Therefore, ‘Gossip girl’ is often compared to ‘Sex and the city’ which is famous for the fashion style. There is another drama which deals with teenagers in America: ’10 things I hate about you’. This drama is relatively less popular than ‘Gossip Girl’ but it was very interesting to me as much as ‘Gossip girl’. The motive of ’10 things I hate about you’ is a play of Shakespeare, ‘The Taming of the Shrew’. Also, it was once made for movie 1999 and the famous actor ‘Heath Ledger’ was the hero of the movie. These two dramas have similarity and difference.

1.     Similarity – love and friendship

     The main character’s age is same in ‘Gossip girl’ and ‘10things I hate about you’. They are all high school students excepting the later season of ‘Gossip girl’. In that age, what is the most interests of them? It is love and friendship. Even though the circumstance of both dramas is different, the main characters worry about love and friendship. They always repeat fighting and reconciliation. By experiencing those processes, teenagers in the drama got matured and became adult gradually.

2.     Difference – life style

     The main characters of ‘Gossip girl’ are very rich but those of ’10things I hate about you’ are not that rich. Their lifestyle is very different. The main characters of ‘Gossip girl’ go to private high school riding limousine, host magnificent parties often, and wear suits and dresses. On the other hand, the main characters of ’10things I hate about you’ go to public high school, host home party, and wear T-shirts and jeans.

Winter Sonata : a romantic love story

     Winter Sonata is one of the most famous Korean dramas. This drama became extremely popular throughout the Asia. Yong-Jun Bae, the hero of this drama became very popular Asian star. He is called ‘Yon-sama’ in the Asia. ‘Yon’ came from his name and ‘sama’ is Japanese word which is very respectful expression of sir. Whenever the hero and heroine of this drama visit other Asian country, so many people come to airport to see them that the airport was paralyzed.

     Then, how can this drama be so popular in the Asia? First, it has beautiful scenes on the screen. The background of this drama is a village which has beautiful sceneries. The two main character first met when they were high school students. That season was late fall, when the maple trees are beautifully overgrown. The main background is winter, as you know from the title of the drama. The clean and white snow background metaphors their pure love effectively.

     Second, the pure romance appealed the Asian people. In these days, many movies and dramas are so provocative. So this drama, a pure love story was a fresh shock the viewer, who were accustomed to the sexual and violent movies. Especially, for the Asian older, this drama provoked the nostalgia to their past memory. Also the very noble and pure love was well coincide with Asian emotion.

     Third, the actor’s acting was good. The two main characters loved each other so much. But, circumstance was not positive to them. The woman character had a fianc who is not main male character because she knew that he died by car accident. However, actually, he didn’t die but live as losing his memories. This situation made the main characters difficulty in presenting their feeling to each other directly. Therefore they should do understatement representation. The acting of actors made this mournful and delicate.

     The director of this drama completed his four season drama series – ‘Spring Waltz’, ‘Summer Fragrance’, ‘Fall Fairy tale’ and ‘Winter Sonata’. Each drama has beautiful scenery and love story. Among them, Winter Sonata became the most popular drama. In these days, it is so cold. Winter seems coming soon. How about watching ‘Winter Sonata’ to enjoy the atmosphere of winter in previous? It is a very lovely drama.

I love drama!





I love watching dramas. It is a tonic in my life. When I was young, I watched the drama which I liked much so many times that I learned dialogues by heart. There are some dramas I got impressed very much, for example, ‘Damo’, ‘The time of dog and wolf’, ‘My name if Kim-SamSoon’ and so on. 

When I am watching drama I became the main character of the drama. So I feel like the main character. Then I can experience other lives different from reality. How fantastic it is? I can be anyone in the drama, for example, dancer, player, lawyer and so on. Also I can fall in love with the handsome actors in the drama!

When I was young I liked only good characters. However, as time goes by, I realized that bad character had also their inevitable reason for their characteristics. In these days, I don’t like the dichotomous drama which is divided into just good and evil. I prefer the drama in which each character has their distinctive characteristics and charm and the series of event is organic.

When I see drama, I feel that I want to make my own drama. I ask myself seeing the movie scenes that how I shoot those scenes if I were the director of the drama. The writer of a drama is also one of my future dreams.(I have many future dreams which makes me confused) It seems very nice that the story I write can be shown to everybody who watch the drama so I can give them inspirations and impressions.

A director of a drama and actresses



 

The good wife : a life as a lawyer, wife, mother, and woman.

Recently, I was fall in love with ‘The good wife’, a TV drama. It was broadcasted 2009~2010 in the United States. That one was season 1 and season 2 will be broadcasted soon, 27^th September. After I watched season 1, I am looking forward watching season 2. This drama deals with law. A series of accident is so exciting that it is hard to wait to stop watching it.

The main character is ‘Alicia Florrick’, a woman who works as lawyer in a big law firm. Actually, she was a housewife for 15 years. However, her husband, an influential State’s attorney of Cook County resigned his job because he was swept in scandal. It changed her life dramatically. She restarted her life as a lawyer. She solved the cases coolly and logically. I felt catharsis when she defense logically and finally win in the court. Also there was a moral irony to think about. What a lawyer can do when she knows that her client is guilty? It made my mind dizzy.

There also are romance and friendship in this drama. She got troubled when her husband was swept in sex scandal. She felt serious sense of betrayal. At first she was very angry but slightly forgave her husband. However, love comes to her. She and her old friend ‘Will’ became an delicate relationship. Will helped her when she was in trouble by her husband. Will was her law school friend and they were always bad timing. Both of them seems loving each other but never apparent their mind directly. It makes their love more strongly and makes watchers nervous. Her friends in the law firm, Kallindar, Cary, Diane is also charming character. Kallindar is a detective in law firm and she keeps close relationship with Alicia.

Another impressive thing is that Alicia is a good mother. She never screams at her children. She always respects them and talks with them reasonably. She never interfere their children. However, her children grew well. And I thought it is interesting that Alicia got angered to her mother-in-law because she did something to Alicia’s children without any Alicia’s agreement. It was very strange thing in Korean because a woman cannot get angry to her mother-in-law. Anyway, it showed that Alicia had a very rigid her own plan for her child and really loved them.

Watching this drama I thought lawyer is an attractive job. So I even considered becoming a lawyer. I envied the confident and calm characteristics of Alicia. I want to become a person like Alicia. Also I got vicarious satisfaction watching when Alicia was finding her identity working as a lawyer escaped from one’s mother or one’s wife. And individually, I hope Alicia and Will show their mind more and fall in love in the next season. I recommend you to watch this drama!
